2013 Coral Reef Sailing: Am I too old?
Am I too old?
We have received inquiries asking if there is an upper age limit for participation in the Coral Reef Sailing Adventure, February 17 to 23, 2013.
The answer is a resounding no. We had an 84 year old sailor on the last Coral Reef Sailing Adventure and he did fine.
The only requirements for participation – other than paying the fee and being a member of the BSA — are that you be surefooted, can pass the BSA swim test, provide the required medical form signed by your doctor, and like to have fun.
You will take the swim test at the Sea Base dock. The swim test is straightforward: jump feet first into water over your head, swim 75 yards in a strong manner using a forward stroke, turn over, swim 25 yards using a resting back stroke and then float motionless on your back for one minute.
The salt water increases your buoyancy so you will likely find the floating pretty easy.
